Omega Men of Columbia – Omicron Phi, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) tax exemptentity organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. In conjunction with the Omicron Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – the oldest chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in the Midlands – Omega Men of Columbia supports a wide array of educational and social action programs designed to uplift those in need in our community:
Omega Men of Columbia Scholarship Endowment
Omega Men of Columbia awards scholarships to college-bound students in the Midlands. High school seniors from Midlands’ school districts are invited to write essays on some relevant topic. Winners are selected by a panel made of up of educators and other professionals.
In 2013, the Omega Men of Columbia Scholarship Endowment was established at Central Carolina Community Foundation through a generous gift from the Promise Foundation. The Scholarship Endowment affords Omega Men of Columbia a perpetual funding source that will allow us to help more students realize their dreams of going to college as well allow us to support younger students as they reach for academic success during elementary and middle school. The first college scholarship from the Omega Men of Columbia Scholarship Endowment in the amount of $1,000 was awarded in 2014 in honor of the late Brother Reuben Van Johnson, a graduate of Fisk University.
Boys Summer Camp
Omega Men of Columbia sends a number of boys, ages 8 to 14 to summer camp each year at the Omega Psi Phi Sixth District Boys Camp. This is a week-long program for young men where they gain experience in outdoor activities, which builds confidence, fosters teamwork and teaches conflict resolution skills.
Food Baskets to Deserving Needy Families
During Thanksgiving and Christmas, Omega Men of Columbia distributes food baskets to families in our community in an effort to make the holidays more joyous. In 2015, Omega Men distributed over 30 food baskets during the holiday season.
